Dr Sonia is a London based Chartered Counselling Psychologist. In her years of experience, she has worked with hundreds of clients from all walks of life, which has provided her with a deep insight and a practical view of the problems people are facing in contemporary times, with regards to their professional and personal lives. Whether it is depression due to lack of respect and recognition at work, emotional distress due to separation, addiction, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, loss of job, or any other issue that is affecting mental health negatively.
She is currently employed by University College London, Student Psychological Services (UCL SPS) as a CBT specialist among a multi-disciplinary team. She provides individual assessments, assessing risk and mental well being, and short term therapy for a number of presentations. She liaises with GP surgeries and other organisations, facilitating referrals. Dr Sonia also facilitates a number of CBT workshops targeting a variety of areas and is responsible for the supervision of Counselling trainees ensuring good, safe practice, trainee support and adherence to BPS and departmental codes and ethics.
Dr Sonia is passionate about providing a therapeutic service to as many people as she can reach. From this passion grew the development of online e-courses, something that makes receiving therapeutic help more convenient for the masses and is in line with the technological age we live in. She wanted to find a way to enable as many people as possible to get the help they need and deserve and so has developed something that allows the user to work through the material at a time and pace that is most convenient in a place that is most convenient; at home, during the daily commute, during a lunch break-anywhere, any time. She is also passionate about enabling others to be active in caring for those with mental health difficulties and is currently designing materials to enable this process.
Dr Sonia’s doctoral research focused on gaining an understanding of the much documented trend of Christian counselling clients seeking and working with counsellors who are also Christians. A 5000 word paper summarising the results was published in the Counselling Psychology Quarterly Journal, March 2011. View here
